Featuring a car from a company that had an addiction to turbochargers, before it was cool.
You know, I’m not a huge Saab fan, but the final 9-5 was damn sexy. Shame it only lasted something like a year.

The “Turbo Rocket Fluid” always make me giggle. Everything back then had to have some sort of futuristic, space age name.

Mopar was one of the worst offenders in the 50s. “Golden Commando”, “Turboflash”...

What was the “Turbo-Rocket Fluid” actually for?

The one that always comes to mind for me is GM’s Turbo-Hydramatic transmission family, that had literally nothing to do with turbos.

I want one of these very badly.

I wanna say it was lubricant for the turbocharger? I’m not entirely sure to be honest.

I’d drive one if I could find a clean, low mileage example in blue or black, maybe even that grey as pictured above. Though I’d be genuinely concerned about parts availability since Saab modified the GM components SO MUCH.

Yeah. Parts are an issue for Saabs.

Mixture of turbo lubricant, turbo cooling, and combustion enhancement/etc. - basically water+methanol+soluble oils. Not really that different than model airplane fuel + a little water, actually.
The biggest problem is that that tank didn’t always vent properly, so either the tank would crack and/or it would hydrolock the engine.

Actually, it does mean something, I think. Turbine in the torque converter, plus hydraulically actuated automatic operation. Vaguely descriptive, though clear as mud.

There is a pretty healthy community online. You’d be surprised once you know where to look.

It’s not that bad. Yeah, your local auto parts store won’t have some more obscure parts but you can order almost anything online.

It was a rudimentary alcohol/meth injection fluid. Mixture of water, methanol and corrosion inhibitors to resist detonation

But it does have something to do with a turbine.

chemical intercooling to prevent detonation. similar to aftermarket methyl Alcohol injection. The engine was 10.25 -1 compression with a carb with 5 PSI.

BOOOOOST!!
